Pitscheförter Riesen

Language: South Tyrolean

Description

Upper Pitschefört, on the mountain behind St. Magdalena in Villnöß, is a flat area known as the Pitscheförter plain. Several giants are said to have lived there in ancient times, all of whom were headless except for one, who had three heads. They owned a flock of snow-white sheep, which they let graze on the surrounding slopes, while they themselves played with golden balls and skittles on the plain, the sound of which could often be heard from St. Magdalena. The people had tremendous respect for the giants, for they were extremely wealthy and noble gentlemen. Since their departure, their golden skittles are believed to have remained buried deep in the mountain.
