Contributors to the dictionary should be aware of the following: 

• Feel free to choose the words that you would like to define. The dictionary is community-led and the body of entries is determined by contributors. The selected terms should, however, have a connection to some aspect of heritage and/or conservation and/or care.
• By submitting your entries, you acknowledge that the work is your own. All sources of knowledge – written, oral, visual, or otherwise – should be properly referenced. This goes for non-academic sources just as for academic ones. Plagiarism is not permitted.

• The name you provide in the submission box will be used to credit authorship. Should you wish to remain anonymous, please leave this blank. Multiple names or the names of communities can be added instead, as we acknowledge that the terms being defined are embedded in specific societies, cultures, families, and groups. Despite individual authorship, they synthesize a broader body of existing, shared knowledge.
• Any photographs, audio recordings, or other such additional material provided must either be in the public domain, openly licensed (e.g., Creative Commons), or your original work. If the photographs are your own, then by including them with your contribution you give GloCo permission to use them on the project’s website. Appropriate credit for images and audio should be provided in the photo and audio caption sections. If an image is not appropriate for a general audience (e.g., it contains sensitive content), kindly consider using a sound recording instead.
• Inclusive language should be used wherever possible. This means maintaining gender neutrality by employing, for example, pronouns such as “they/their” instead of “he/his” or “she/her,” as well as nouns such as “humankind” instead of “mankind.”

• Please be respectful of other contributors and their entries. This project acknowledges that definitions will vary across time, culture, community, and place.

• Entries must not include discriminatory language or content that marginalizes individuals based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Submissions that breach this policy will not be published.

• If possible, please provide an English-language version of your contribution. We acknowledge the colonial dimension of this stipulation but believe that having a common language allows us to share and bring content to light, in order to re-indigenize knowledge and heritage discourses. Translations are also provided, sometimes through the use of Artificial Intelligence, which though imperfect is, again, a calculated compromise to allow the dictionary to reach as many readers as possible.

• All languages are welcome. Kindly feel free to add your preferred languages as well as English. We believe that the inclusion of local languages makes the internet a better, fairer, and more representative space. We hope that a greater variety of languages will contribute to the diversification not only of heritage discourse but of the web more broadly.

By following these guidelines, contributors help us to ensure that the GloCo dictionary remains a respectful, inclusive, and knowledge-rich resource for all.
