Those who didn’t have faith in Lok Ta Snap, the grandfather spirit, experienced misfortunes: their motorbikes broke down on the way into the forest, and others fell off their bikes on the way back, breaking arms or legs, or flipping their carts or tractors. Since then, everyone has referred to the spirit as Lok Ta Snap, a sacred and powerful protector. Travellers now make offerings of fruit or place a stone on top of others, or on plants, to show respect and ask for blessings. The stone represents his patient heart, as he listens and responds to the prayers of the people—if it is in his heart to do so. He may grant safety and happiness to those travelling through the forest. The plants and leaves represent hopes for agricultural harvests. Some still pass by without faith, but others stop to offer their respects and try to understand who he is. A spirit house was later built for him, especially after loggers began using this path to transport timber.
