This jar-shaped pottery container is used in practically every home in Senegal. It keeps drinking water fresh. This practice is disappearing progressively with the arrival of the refrigerator. Nevertheless, some families have not given up on this tradition because of the symbolic meaning it carries. The values that revolve around this tradition, since everyone drinks from the same container, include a sense of community, union, and sharing.
