Noémie Étienne is professor of art history and heritage at the University of Vienna. In 2023, she was awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant for her project titled Global Conservation: Histories and Theories (16th-21th centuries). Before joining the University of Vienna, she served as a Mellon Postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Fine Arts-NYU, a postdoctoral fellow at the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Bern, where she led a research project focusing on the invention of the exotic in Europe from 1600 to 1800. Her expertise lies in material culture, art, conservation, casts, heritage, and museum studies, with a focus on the 17th and 18th centuries. Beside her first monograph published about the restoration of paintings in Paris, she co-edited two special issues on the future of conservation.
