Su gibi git su gibi gel "flow away like water and return like water"

Language: Turkish
Contributors: Lara Ersoy

Description

This saying is accompanied by the act of pouring a cup of water during the departure of a traveller. The person staying behind pours the water in a forward motion behind their loved one who is leaving home, while saying that they should flow away and flow back like water: fast, steady and reliable. Since it is said that a drop of water always finds its way back to its original puddle, so shall be the traveller’s journey.

In the video below, the woman that is left behind is pouring water after a car that is driving away.
